Pixel art or detailed, in your style

Pick pixel art or detailed in the creator, then put the look you want in your prompt. Here's the same fox knight with seven different style descriptions. Pixel art comes out on a real pixel grid at sprite size. Detailed art is smooth 2D.

Each perspective comes with its own set of animations, drawn facing the right way for that kind of game. Need a move that isn't on the list? Describe it.

How to make a pixel art character

1

Describe your character

A line of text is enough. Already have a sprite? Upload it instead and go straight to animating it.

2

Pick a style and a perspective

Pixel art or detailed, side view, top-down or isometric. The animations follow the perspective you pick.

3

Choose the animations

Start from the set for your perspective, then add your own moves in plain words, like "drink a potion".

4

Export it to your engine

Download a playable setup for Godot, Unity, Phaser or Roblox, or plain sprite sheets for anything else.

Every screen of the creator, step by step, is in the character guide.

Export to your engine

When the animations are done, the character exports as a ready-to-play setup, so you skip slicing sheets and wiring up an animation player by hand.

  • Godot

Scenes, scripts and a playable character you can drop into a level.

  • Unity

A .unitypackage with a character controller prefab.

  • Phaser

A playable starter project with your character set up.

  • Roblox

A demo project with your character in it.

Engine exports come with any paid plan. On the Free plan, and for GameMaker, RPG Maker or your own engine, download each move as a sprite sheet, an animated WebP or PNG frames. See every engine.

Or let your coding agent make the cast

The SpriteCook plugin for Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and OpenCode can create characters, animate them and export a Godot-ready folder straight into your project while your agent writes the game. See the agent setup.

Frequently asked questions

Is the pixel art character generator free?+
You can try it for free. New accounts get free credits with no credit card, and you see the credit cost of the character and of each animation before you generate.
What animations can it make?+
It depends on the perspective. Side view has idle, walk, run, jump, attack, hurt and death. Top-down has idle, walk, run, attack, hurt and death in four directions. Isometric has idle, walk, run, jump, attack, hurt and death, facing front and back. You can also describe your own moves, like drinking a potion or throwing a bomb.
Can I animate a character I already drew?+
Yes. Upload your sprite instead of typing a description. A pixel art upload is animated as pixel art, then you pick a perspective and the animations.
Which game engines can I export to?+
Godot gets scenes, scripts and a playable character. Unity gets a .unitypackage with a character controller prefab. Phaser gets a playable starter and Roblox a demo project. Engine exports come with any paid plan. On the Free plan you can still download each animation as a sprite sheet, an animated WebP or PNG frames, which also covers GameMaker, RPG Maker and other engines.
Can I make a whole cast that looks consistent?+
Yes. Use the same art style, perspective and style words for every character. The creator can also make and animate several characters in one batch.
What is the difference between pixel art and detailed characters?+
Pixel art comes out on a real pixel grid at sprite size, with crisp edges. Detailed characters are smooth, higher resolution 2D art. Within either one, you set the look in your prompt: chibi proportions, a retro palette of eight colors, painterly brush strokes and so on.
Can I use the characters in a commercial game?+
Yes, you can use them in commercial projects, including games you sell. Usage rights also depend on the terms of the AI providers behind the models, so read those alongside the SpriteCook Terms of Service.
Can my AI coding agent make characters?+
Yes. The SpriteCook MCP server works with Claude Code, Codex, Cursor and other agents. Its generate_character and generate_character_animations tools make the character and its moves, and export_godot_character_package hands back a Godot-ready folder.
