Pixel Editor
Fix, change and animate sprites by hand, right inside SpriteCook.
The Pixel Editor opens any SpriteCook asset with all its frames. Editing by hand is free on every plan and doesn't use credits. If you know Aseprite, you'll find your way around: tools on the left, color and palette on the right, and a timeline at the bottom. It needs a desktop or laptop screen.
Open it from
- • Manual Editor in the sidebar
- • Advanced editor when you view an asset
- • Right-click an asset and pick Manually Edit
Frames, layers and onion skin
Animations open with every frame, at the fps they were made with. Press Enter to play, step through with comma and period, and drag frames to reorder them. Switch the timeline to Layers and frames to work with layers, and turn on Onion skin (F3) to see the previous frame in red and the next one in blue.
Align frames
Generated animations sometimes drift a pixel or two. Frame, Align frames lines every frame up by an anchor like the feet, with a preview first.
Place from my assets
Drops another sprite on a new layer. An animation lands frame by frame, so you can add a hat or an effect over an attack.
Drawing and selecting
- • Pencil, eraser, paint bucket, eyedropper, line, rectangle, ellipse and gradient, with brushes from 1 to 64 pixels
- • Pixel perfect lines, Mirror X and Y, and ink modes for lighten, darken, shade and dither
- • Rectangle select, lasso and magic wand, then copy, flip, rotate, scale or crop
- • Rotate by angle uses RotSprite, so edges stay clean at angles like 30 or 45 degrees

Cleanup for AI sprites
The Image menu has the tools you reach for after generating. Each one previews on the canvas and shows how many pixels change, and you can run it on one frame or on all of them.
Clean up pixels
Removes stray single pixels, makes half-transparent edges solid, and can snap every color to the palette.
Outline
Adds a 1 pixel outline inside or outside. Its Smart repair tab closes gaps in an outline the sprite already has.
Reduce colors and Replace color
Tidy up a palette or swap one color for another everywhere.
Adjust colors
Hue, saturation and lightness sliders (Ctrl+U). The quickest way to make a color variant.
Edit with AI
The prompt bar changes the sprite from a description. Pick a model, or the agent for bigger edits, and select an area first if you only want to change that part. The result lands on a new layer, so you can erase what you don't want or undo it. AI edits use credits like any other edit, and the agent needs a paid plan.
Palettes
The palette starts with the colors in your sprite. Switch to the palette the asset was generated with, one of your saved palettes, or classics like PICO-8 and DawnBringer 32. Palette files from Lospec (.hex), GIMP and Aseprite (.gpl) and JASC (.pal) open too, and you can save a palette to your account for the generator.
Opening, saving and downloading
Besides your SpriteCook assets, the editor opens PNG files, animated GIF, WebP and APNG files, sprite sheets and Aseprite files. You can also drop or paste an image onto it.
Save or Save as New
Save overwrites the asset. Save as New keeps the original. If the tab closes before you save, the editor offers to restore your work next time.
Downloads
Free at 1x, 2x, 4x or 8x: PNG, sprite sheet, GIF, a ZIP of frames, or an Aseprite file with your layers. Unity and Godot packages, and Phaser for animations, need a paid plan.
Prefer the old editor? Help, Switch to the classic editor takes you back, and the classic editor has a button to return.
